Big-box stores use consumer cameras and inkjet printers. We shoot with Profoto studio lighting — the same brand used by top commercial photographers — for shadow-free, accurate skin tones every time. Prints come from a Japanese NDP dye-sublimation printer: waterproof, no smearing, colour-stable for 3+ years. Print + digital in one visit.
Passport Photo Requirements in Canada — What You Need to Know
Canada’s IRCC has specific requirements for passport photos. We check every photo against these specs before you leave our Kingston studio.
- Size: 50 × 70 mm (approx. 2 × 2¾ inches)
- Background: plain white or off-white — no patterns or shadows
- Expression: neutral, mouth closed, eyes open and looking straight at camera
- No glasses (IRCC rule changed 2020 — glasses no longer permitted)
- Taken within the last 6 months
- Print quality: no pixelation, no inkjet smearing, no red-eye
- Both ears visible (hair pulled back if needed)
- Head centred, no tilt
We handle all of this during your session. You won’t need to print anything at home or guess whether the photo meets the standard — we check it on-site in Kingston before you leave.

FAQ
Do I need an appointment?
Yes — please call or text to book a slot. Same-day is often available.
How long does it take?
Most sessions take about 5 minutes start to finish.
Is a digital file included?
Yes. Every session includes a digital file + printed photos, no extra charge.
What if I’m not sure about the required size?
Tell us what document it’s for (passport / visa / PR / ID) and we match the specs.
Do you do US, China, or other countries’ visa photos?
Yes. We handle many countries’ passport and visa photo specifications.
Baby passport photos — any tips?
We recommend babies be at least 6 months old and able to sit up on their own. Feed them right before you come — a full, happy baby makes the session much smoother. If your baby isn’t sitting steadily yet, please call us first so we can advise.
What if the photo gets rejected?
Very rare — we check compliance on-site. If it happens, we retake for free.
What type of printer do you use?
We use a Japanese NDP dye-sublimation printer — the same technology used by professional photo labs. Prints are waterproof and colour-stable for 3+ years. No inkjet smearing, no fading. If your country’s passport office has strict print quality requirements (Australia, for example), our prints meet those standards.
